American Playground™ is dedicated to entertaining and developing children of all ages and abilities. Whether it is a ground level component for a child in a wheelchair, or a low-rise staircase for a younger child who finds staircases challenging; we design our play equipment with our most important customer in mind, the child.
Recently, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Access Board developed guidelines for playground accessibility and compliance. Under these guidelines special consideration has been taken to give all children an equal opportunity to participate in the play experience. According to these guidelines at least half of the structures' elevated components must be accessible by a ramp or transfer station. Also, for every elevated component on a play structure, there must be a correlating number of ground level components. Of these ground level components there must be different types for a wide variety of play experiences. Here is a table showing the number of ground level components needed versus the number of elevated components provided on a structure.
